Generally, I am much more used to GM'ing games over a table, and at the very least, over Skype, so in regards to rules of the games and dice rolls and such, I figure that most things should work out fairly well, only at a far slower rate.
So, what I plan to do is to run a 'One-Shot' game first with the sole intent of finding our feet in this.
Rules and dice rolls won't be as important as the actual roleplay. Thats really a given, but really, we'll just have to see how this goes down.
Alternatively, we could just go complete text based like we used to, but that really does away with a lot of the stats and rolling.
Both ways have there pros and cons of course;
Text based with loose rules/rolls:
-Pros:
--Allows us to all play whenever we have time.
-Cons:
--Game will be slow.
--Combats will be slow.
Complete Text based:
-Pros:
--Will be slightly quicker due to lack of rolling. (But not by a lot I predict.)
--Allows us to play whenever we have time.
--Allows us to play PbF (Play by Forum) games of backgrounds we don't have systems for. (E.G Warhammer 40k.)
-Cons:
--The lack of dice rolls mean that Character Death is not something that will ever seem like a worry.
There are a few more that I can't think of at the minute, and there are pros and cons concerning the use of Skype and doing an actual pen and paper game, but those are rather moot, considering that it will be hard for the group to get together. So don't worry about those, but feel free to discuss them none the less.
Like I said, I plan to run this first game with some sort of semblance of rules and rolling, means means a few things.
1. I will not have a PC, as I will be controlling all the NPCs anyway.
2. Rolling can either happen with a dice roller program or with actual dice that you guys roll. Either way requires you to be fully honest with the results you post, so it does not really matter which method you decide to choose. (There are programs which allow me to see what you've rolled, but eh, I should think I will have a certain about of faff already.)
3. It is highly doubtful that I will be able to prepare gridded battle areas for when combat happens. This means that right away the speed and distance parts of combat will be different. (A complete Text based game would do away with this.)
Most of you should know how PbF works, and how just doing it as a plain text based style works, however, to get an idea of how it works with rules and dice rules, go to this link: boardgamegeek.com/forum/398153/pathfinder-roleplaying-game/play-by-forum
Check some of the posts that are labelled with (IC) in the title and you can get a look at how it is when rules are involved.
