Starday, 12th Abadius, 4707 (Early Evening)Ameiko stood at the doorway of the Rusty Dragon and frowned as the rain poured down all over Sandpoint. It was still early on in the new year, and she suspected that the heavy rain might last for a few more days yet. Not that it mattered much. Business was slow not just because of the rain, but also due to the season. People had done much of their celebrating upon seeing in the new year. She sighed and glanced down at her tattoo, a jade coloured snake. She closed her eyes briefly as she relished the memory of those she had lost, but opened them in a flash when those memories turned more violent. She let out another sigh. This one longer than the last. She shrugged and took one last took at the dark early evening skies before turning and entering her Inn. The Rusty Dragon smelt fresh and new. In fact, she had only managed to just finish renovating the place before the end of last year. She smiled as she walked over the the bar. She had bought it upon returning from adventuring with the idea of making it more of a place where fellow Adventurers could relax and have a place to stay. Before she had bought it, the Rusty Dragon had been run down. The old owner, who had passed away last year, had given up caring the building in his advancing years. Ameiko however, was young, at the age of nineteen, and she had vowed to give the Inn the care it needed in order to be a base from which the Sandpoints visiting Adventurers could operate from. There wasn't that many patrons within the Varisian and Tien mixed themed inn so far this evening, so few so that Ameiko had only kept the Rusty Dragons chef behind this evening, a middle aged Varisian man with no hair left called Romi, who currently sat at the end of the bar near the kitchen door, sipping slowly at a mug of local Varisian mead. ---- This is your first day in Sandpoint, and results of asking around town as it pours give you the Rusty Dragon as the best place for Adventurers to go to stay, though you are all told of the White Dear Inn also, the Rusty Dragon is closer and since the rain doesn't seem to be letting up, you decide to try there first.
As you approach the Rusty Dragon, you see that it is a sturdy two tiered building with a rusty metal dragon that hangs above the door. The rain was pouring down making the mud hard to walk in, Diabel Kirito was finding seeing through the thick screen of water droplets difficult but knew he must be heading in the right direction. Turning right around the corner Diabel saw his location, easily marked by the rusted dragon motif above the door, sighing he muttered to himself "this better be good" and walked towards the door. Pushing the door to one side and closing it quietly behind him he peered around the bar at the few people inside, noticing the bar Diabel walked almost silently to the bar to where a young woman stood "hi" he said quietly "could i please have some water and something to eat"

Ameiko glanced up at the figure as it entered the Inn and made its way over to the bar. She smiled, happy for the business. Starday evenings would normally be a bit more lively than this, but, what with it being the new year recently, she wasn't about to complain.
"Certainly!" she exclaimed. She took a nearby clean mug and dunked it in the fresh water barrel and passed it over, followed by a small menu on a clean cut piece of parchment. "I reccomend the Tien Chicken Curry. Romi here isn't Tien like me, but he certainly knows how to make a mean Tien dish!"
--- The menu reads;
Rusty Dragon Starday Evening Menu.
Tien Chicken Curry. (2 Gold) Tien Sweet and Sour Chicken (2 Gold) -Either to be served with rice or noddles.
Bananas with a Cinnamon and Coconut sauce. (1 Gold)

The rain was heavy and starting make Kale uncomfortable. He had been walking for at least a couple of hours and knowing even if set up camp, everything in his bag would be soaked through. He stopped a man running in the opposite direction, who also must of been trying to escape the heavy rain. " Excuse me, anywhere for a bit of warmth and something to eat." The man pointed towards the inn. Kale walked towards the inn. The large iron dragon swinging slightly in the wind was the first thing Kale noticed. Just after he also noticed someone just walked into the inn as they closed the door silently. Kale walked up the couple steps, shook off as much water from his closes also wiping the hair stuck to his face away with his hand and trying to look a little more respectful. Kale tied his hair back and walked into the inn.

Ameiko smiled and looked over to Romi. The bald man was already out of his stool, mug of mead in hand and heading toward the kitchen door. She looked back at the man, though her eyes glanced over to the figure who had just entered, before she turned her eyes back to the man at the bar. "That will be three gold coins please." she spoke with a smile before continuing. "And if you have any wet gear or coats, there are a couple of stands near the fire place there."

Diabel passed over the 3 gold coins smiling as he handed them to her, once the money was handed over Diabel turned to where the young lady had mentioned and walked over to the fire place. Unclasping his hooded cloak from his shoulder he draped it over the peg near the fire place and started warming his hands.

The inn was warm and straight away , the slight dying smell of paint still remained. There was not many in the inn. A couple of people sitting in the corner but also the same figure that Kale seen closing the door in front of him was standing at the bar, talking to a young woman, who seemed to be the inn keeper. The smell of homemade food from the back of the inn was wonderful. Kale had been living on his rations for last couple of days as the weather has not helped with hunting animals. So the idea of a warm meal was definitely on the cards. Walking to the bar Kale noticed the stranger paying for his meal then walking away from the bar and towards the fire. Kale waited at the bar for service.

A warm greeting Kale thought, not had one of those in a while. Wiping his brow again he looked at the young woman.
" Something to dry my face if possible and afterwards a look at the menu please."
Before the woman could reply Kale butted in. "Something sure does smell good."

Kale thanked the woman and took the towel from her grasp. Whipping his wet brow with a dry cloth felt a lot better than his wet sleeve that was for sure. After refreshing up he handed back the cloth to the woman and without even looking at the menu.
"Well curry it is then. Also, what do u have to drink around here."

She beamed before yelling through to the kitchen, "One curry, Rom!"
"Well," she replied with purpose, "we've a selection of Varisian meads and ales as standard. We have some fine wines from Magnimar and Korvosa, but," she stopped for a brief moment and gave the figure a good once over. "I have a feeling that somehow, you are not a wine drinking man." She grinned.
"I also have some rice wine from Tian, but it isn't cheap."

Pulling up a small stool Diabel sat near the fire watching the flames dance back and forth, hearing the new comer ordering over at the bar he glanced over noting the sheer size of the man he noticed he must have had a similar journey as himself as the man at the bar was soaked from head to toe, glancing back at the fire Diabel watched the flames dancing infront of him and welcomed the warmth on his pale skin.

Ameiko grinned. "Three gold, sir." she replied as she reached for a tankard to pour out a Varisian ale.
The door of the kitchen opened and the bald chef entered carrying two plates of food. The smells of both the dishes filled the immediate area. Romi placed them both down at the end of the bar and returned to his kitchen.
Ameiko moved to grab them up and placed the correct orders down in front of the two men.
She glanced at the young Half-Elf for a brief moment, as she pondered if she had seen him somewhere before, but nothing came to her mind. "So, are both of you new to Sandpoint?"

Orcana-Rae knelt beneath an over-loaded cart at the end of the cobblestone street. She had watched for some time as patrons entered the Rusty Dragon several yards ahead. She could barely make out the sign, though the silhouettes of the people going inside were clear as day to her trained eyes.
"This weather is only going to get worse. Where is he?"
She waited a while longer. She knew she should go in, she needed to get out of the rain before she fell ill from exposure, but she needed to wait for him first.
"Just a few more minutes, " she uttered under her breath, rubbing her hands together beneath her cloak to ease the cold. "Just a few more minutes."

Taking the curry from her hands Kale walked towards the nearest table, not shy from the bar. Placing the curry on the table Kale walked to the bar to pick up his ale and before he walked backed to his food he heard the young woman ask if he was new to Sandpoint. But Kale also noticed that she asked the stranger the same question. Walking back to his curry the barbarian held his tongue a little to see if the stranger would reply before him. Kale was unsure of the character. Not once has he seen his face or heard him speak so this was a perfect opportunity.

Snapping out of his day dream Diabel looked up at the young woman "thank you" he said quietly, "I'm from near by and I'm sure i have never been here before" he replied a little louder than before "we usually keep our selves to our selves really. You have a really nice place here" he said once again smiling at her.

Godein walked slowly through the quagmire that was the dirt road, drops of rainwater falling from the hood of his cloak. His long trek from the Temple of Iomedae had been pleasent, right until the rain had swept in from the east. The light patters had increased to a damn near torrential downpour and slowed his approach to Sandpoint. An hour later than his planned arrival, he had listened and cajoled the populous into giving him directions to a nearby inn for the evening. He'd be damned if he was going to stay in his tent in this weather.
He stared at the sign for the Rusty Dragon Inn for a moment. Whilst the rusted dragon that hung from the cast iron fixture creaked in the rain, he wondered briefly if the place had been known as the Iron Dragon Inn before it's namesake had rusted. He took a moment to conceal the symbol of Iomedae beneath his shirt, the silver chain and symbol cold on his skin. Satisfied, he pushed the door open and entered, quickly glancing around at the patrons. The woman behind the bar, young by all accounts, was conversing with a man bedecked in leather and furs - asking aquestion he only heard the final syllable of. Another patron was sat by the fire, drenched head to foot and warming himself. The other patrons, few and inconsequential, sat at lonely wooden tables, staring into dregs of ale or eating the remnants of meals.
Godein lowered his hood, revealing his broad, strong face. He'd shaven his hair off during his last day at the temple out of practicality, cutting ones hair without a mirror tended to end up causing more harm than good to ones scalp. He approached the bar and dropped his pack beside him, the leather pack clattering as the pan hit off of the manacles concealed within. He waited patiently as the larger man finished speaking in answer to the barkeeps question before speaking himself.
"Good evening, barkeep. What food and drink do you have this evening?"

Ameiko smiled. "Thank you." she replied, "it took most of my savings from my short lived Adventuring career, but its finally all clicking into place."
She looked over to the new comer and smiled. "Well, we have a selection of drinks and an evening meal menu for you to take a look at." she replies as she sides the parchment across.

Kale felt a little bad not replying to the inn keeper after her nice hospitality, but not replying was a good thing as surrounded by strangers, its better keeping quiet. The only thing that really stopped him replying was the entrance of the newcomer. Also soaked and probably in for the same reason, food and a bit heat.
Kale observed the newcomer. Well dressed and a very proud and strong face, head shaving and a presence which slightly moved Kale's calm. The noise from the dropped bag startled most in the inn. Kale had two men now to be watchful of. " I know the inn keeper means well but always watch your surroundings and the people in it." Kale thought. Finishing off his curry and downing in ale. Kale lifted his plate and headed back to the bar.

The rain continued, turning the roads into a muddy challenge and keping people off the streets. Muttering to himself about rain, a solitary dwarf pauses briefly underneath a hanging of a nearby house. Reaching into his pocket Durgean Oginson produces a pipe stuffed with tobacco. With effort, fumbling over his cold, near numb hands he tries to light the pipe. For brief moments, there is success and the dried leaves catch light, but before he can do any more than a single draw, a drop of water slips from the roof and puts out the mini blaze before it gets started.
Grumbling, Durgean stuffs the now damp pipe back into his pocket and peers out into the cascading rain. Ahead he spies the inn he had heard of, the 'Rusty Dragon'. The thought of a dry, warm place draws him from his cover and into the muddy road. Tucking his beard into his belt, Durgean trundled off toward the inn as quickly as he short legs could carry him. Pausing briefly on the porch, he stomps most of the rain off himself and pushes open the door.
Still muttering about the rain to himself, without taking notice of any others in the inn he stomps off towards the bar. Dropping his empty pack at a stool, Durgean clambers onto it.
"Tavern girl, ale. And none of this weak man stuff. What dwarf ale do you have?"
Whilst waiting a reply, Durgean fishes around in his pocket for his pipe. This time, the new dry leaves light up like a pyre. Taking a long, drawn out sup at the pipe, the dwarf visibly relaxes and glances around at the other faces in the room.

Shadow rounded the corner, holding over himself a cloak much too large - and not one that he had previously had. Spotting Orcana quite easily in the dim light of the evening, he moved towards her, quiet as a wisp. The rain had washed most of the blood from the leather cesti he wore over his arms and hid underneath his standard cloak, now kept dry by the larger cloak he held over it. Those men won't be troubling any more citizens for at least a week, he thought. It was a shame the weather weren't better, but he had been able to dispatch them quickly enough.
Coming up to Orcana and the cart she crouched beneath, he couldn't help but wonder why she waited for him. Since their meeting just outside the town, the half-breed had insisted on remaining with him as they entered Sandpoint. And now this? Perhaps it was the human half of her; humans were notorious for seeking companionship, after all.
"What are you waiting for?" he asked, his voice soft amidst the spattering of the rain. He spoke Elven, for she spoke it as well as she spoke Common, and his Common was passable at best. Without waiting for a reply, he made for the door to the inn. He kept the other cloak over him just long enough to make it to the porch then discarded it in a soaking, muddy heap as he went to step inside. Wearing a scarf over his nose and mouth, and with his standard cloak's hood drawn, he hoped that he would be able to pass the likely few patrons without so much as a second glance.

Post by Kemuel on Jul 26, 2013 1:44:17 GMT
Striding purposefully through the sodden land and the unrelenting rain, the corner of Kemuel's mouth flickered into a brief, tight smile as the once proud Knight allowed himself to indulge in a memory of a seemingly different age. His shield and sword clinked a rhythm as he marched and as he strode onwards, his mind brought back to him vividly the feeling of intense pride and duty that he had experienced - he had been posted to a guard post outside the King's palace. A much younger man then of course, Kemuel had only recently begun service in The Ton, as the Battalion had come to be known. The memory had stirred because Kemuel had spent the duration of that shift being utterly rained upon too. How young he had been. Young and naive. Nevertheless, they had been good days, for sure. The rain didn't weight Kemuel down in the least. It refreshed him and made everything new.
Of course the world was much different now for the exiled Knight and this realisation stopped the memory cold. His almost nomadic existence did weight heavily on him. A man should have a home. And a family. And of course, he had done, once... Kemuel looked down sharply, shaking the familiar, haunting thoughts from his mind.
As he looked up again, Kemuel realised he was on the cusp of a town. This must be the Sandpoint that other travellers had directed him to. A Tavern's windows lit up the immediate area around it and their warm, soft light enticed Kemuel. Stopping momentarily, the former Knight drew up his belt, checked his sword and then swung his drenched, battle-worn cloak around himself again. Pursing his mouth into a tight, firm line, Kemuel made a line for the Rusty Dragon and entered in.
The eclectic collection of people in the tavern took Kemuel by some surprise. These were far from the usual, common-folk found in a tavern. The far side of the room seemed a little darker and erring on the side of caution, Kemuel walked across and sat down at a unoccupied table in the shadows. Perhaps he would linger here a little while before moving on. Something interesting seemed afoot and it stirred Kemuel's blood at the prospect.

Ameiko blinked briefly at the some what disgruntled Dwarf before replying, "I don't have much call for Dwarven ale sadly, but I think there is one barrel left in the basement... Romi," she proceeded to shout through the kitchen door. "could you check the cellar please. I'm sure there is a single barrel of Dwarven stout, that stuff from Janderhoff."
Ameiko turned back to the Dwarf and smiled. "He'll just go check for you, friend." She glanced up at the door as the couple entered. Her eyes narrowed a little at the figure with the hood, but she made a note not to let her gaze linger too long. She nodded her thanks to the man who brought his plate back, took it up and placed the dirty plate on a table just within the kitchen door and turned back to the bar just in time to see the final man enter the Rusty Dragon. She blinked a little in surprise at the amount of people who had entered the Inn within such a short space of time. She had expected some of the regular crowd in tonight, but certainly not any new faces. And these were new faces. And, they were Adventurers. It wasn't just their attire. Or their gear. It was the way they carried themselves. She could tell. But, she could also tell that they were all so new to it. Oh, sure, she could point out those that had experience already. Be in military or otherwise, but it wasn't Adventuring. That was a whole different affair. Her head turned as Romi pushed open the kitchen door with his foot and entered into the main room carrying a medium sized barrel. A large label on the front of it read 'Kari's Janderhoff Stout'. He placed it down behind the bar and proceeded to go about tapping it. ---- Map of the ground floor of the Rusty Dragon: www.dundjinni.com/forums/uploads/supercaptain/Rusty_Dragon_Ground_Floor_night_shadow.jpg

Orcana-Rae stepped inside the Rusty Dragon and immediately wanted to leave. She stuck near her companion, walking in his shadow as they slipped towards the empty dining area to the left. Everyone else had rightly aimed towards the open fire or the bar but she wanted to remain invisible as best as possible. She just wanted to not be there.
Shadow took a seat at first directly in the dark void between the lights of the room with a perfect view of the bar and other patrons. Orcana-Rae moved up to join him then paused, looking right at her companion she saw something in his eye. "Should I ask about lodgings for the night?"

Kale stood at the bar waiting his turn as he could see the bar keep was kept busy. Another one of those ales would go down a treat. He not long finished a job in the nearest town, which was to act as bodyguard for some traveling noble. Kale was not interested in the person or what they represent, just the payment was good and now Kale wanted to enjoy some of that payment. Waiting at the bar until the woman a spare moment he noticed the Inn starting to fill. He could tell by how busy the staff was that this was not a usual night for trade. He could tell by the young woman's face that she was delighted with all the newcomers but also at the same time it was a little too busy for one woman and her cook. But she kept a happy face and did her job well.
Kale looked around the Inn. He noticed it was not your everyday customers. No drunks, or the real poor kind that throw together there coins just so they can share a ale or a hot meal. These people were.....well prepared, and......Kale was not really good with finding the right words of situations but he knew everyone here was not local.
Kale noticed the soldier not long walk in. Another proud looking fellow, the man was aged a bit, but a veteran, telling by the battle damage on his shield. The Dwarf, sitting demanding his ale. Typical Dwarf he thought. He did not mind Dwarfs. Honest and straight to the point but most of all battle ready. He did not see the Dwarf as a threat. Just a man wanting his stout. The first man he seen of the night was still ever quiet sitting by the fire keeping warm and by the look of his empty plate the meal went down well. He noticed slightly another couple of figures walk in, but he vision was taking by the soldier. He finally looked about the Inn again. Different type of people sitting in separate places and keeping to there own business. Kale wondered if something was ready to go down. Was some one waiting for someone else to make the first move. Kale only wanted a hot meal and somewhere to have a good night sleep, if there was rooms available and a bit of a relax, even if only for one night. But something played in the Barbarian's mind, that this might not happen.

Having long since gotten used to the soaked to the bone feeling on his travels Zhen strode along the muddy street as if oblivious to the conditions, heading to what seemed to be an inn. It was the nearest and appeared to be within his monetary means as well. Looking in through a window before entering, taking note that there seemed to be an unusual number of people on such a rainy night. He slipped his axe knuckles on his left hand, and concealing it in his loose robe, he entered and headed straight for the bar.
Discretely eyeing the fellow patrons Zhen headed to the left side of the bar near the stairs and patiently waited, longing for a hot bite, a cool drink and a spot near the fire.

Ameiko felt a little rushed off of her feet but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. She poured the Dwarf a mug of the stout, told him the cost and moved onto the man who had ordered the curry before hand. She told see that he wanted another of the Varisian Ales, so she took his mug and refilled before asking for a gold piece.
The clean shaven man seemed to still be pondering over the menus, so she moved to the newcomer who had taken up a place at the end of the bar.
"Evening sir, how can I help you?" Ameiko asked as she pushed one of the menu parchments across to him.
