Having been the first of the newcomers in the bar it was becoming largely apparent to Diabel that the bar was filling up a little bit too much for his tastes and making him uneasy, moving his chair from where he was sitting to the very side of the fire he thought it would appear that he was creating room for others to sit if they wanted too but in all actuality it was so that he could get a better view of the room. Surveying the room he sipped at his water
"interesting bunch" he thought to himself.

It was an uncomfortable bunch. More than a few humans; those didn't bother Shadow as much. Humans were terribly diverse, so he never knew how they would react to him. It was the other half-elf, I'm a magnet for them it seems, and of course the dwarf that put him immediately on guard. Their races had a long and vicious history that he wanted no part in. He was uncomfortably aware of the looks he received from the innkeep, an energetic young woman, but he did not perceive any immediate threats.
For now.
As he sat at the table in the shadows, his ears flicked in annoyance at Orcana and her question. Didn't she know that of course she should ask? He wasn't about to uncover himself in front of all of these strangers, nor was he planning on sleeping in the muddy streets of Sandpoint. His eyes spoke volumes, but he only uttered one word at her in Common. "Yes."

Glancing through the menu, the barmaids movement caught his eye and Zhen quickly made up his mind, using his free hand to dig out the 2gp from his waist belt. "A cup of water and a bowl of the sweet and sour with noodles please." Placing the coins on the table, he looked up at the young woman "also how much for a nights rest here?"

Orcana-Rae turned on her heels feeling belittled once again by the drow. What was his problem? She was so focused on herself that she'd lost that sense of being overcrowded as she approached the bar. I figure he'll want food too! she thought.
"Barkeep?" she said, then realized she'd spoken in Elven as the eyes of the nearest patrons turned their attention to her. "Barkeep?" She repeated in the proper tongue then as she waited for the barkeep to get back to her she eyed over the menu. Curry seemed like a great choice in comparison to the rations she'd been eating for the last three weeks. She could smell something in the air nearby but wasn't sure if that was her imagination or someone else eating the curry too. I bet the drow won't like it, stubborn old fool. she thought.
Orcana waited for the other patron to be served, hoping she wasn't drawing too much attention to herself.

Ameiko smiled at the man who had asked for the sweet and sour chicken with noddles. "You won't be disappointed." she beamed. "As for rooms," she continued. "Its 1 gold a night if you want one of the bunks in the common room, its 2 gold a night for one of the single rooms, and 4 gold a night for one of the double bed rooms. I tend to offer a fifty percent discount to fellow Adventurers, but have to have been on a job for the town first, and then," she grinned. "and then, you have to tell me all about it!" she winked. "I'm not just the owner of this fine establishment you see, am I'm also one Hells of a Bard." She motioned to the Shamisen that lay on the bench at the back of the bar.
Ameiko gave the mans order to Romi through the Kitchen door, before responding to the female Half Elf with a smile. "Yes miss, what can I get for you?" As she did so, she took a fresh mug and dunked it into the fresh water barrel, passing it to the man who had asked for it.
---- Zhen: -2gp from your total.

Orcana-Rae moved uncomfortably under the gaze of the clearly younger barkeep. She ran her thumbnail down the palm of her other hand to keep herself focused. She hated being around other people and it was really getting to her now. “Hi. Could I get two of your curries please? No drinks, and could I book two of your single rooms as well please?” she asked, trying her best to not sound like she was falling over herself. Fumbling into a pocket, she pulled out a small leather pouch and dropped it on the bar. "Would you open a slate for me too? Or do you want payment up front?"

Ameiko smiled cheerfully. "I can open up a room tab for you are planning on staying more than one night, yes. That way you have a chance to get some jobs under your belt and a chance to tell me all about them!" She grinned enthusiastically. "The meals and drinks need to be paid up front though. Oh," Ameiko took up a small pad of parchment before reaching for two keys that were on a selection of small hooks at the back of the bar. "can I get your name please?"
---- At this point Romi enters from the kitchen with a plate with sweet and sour chicken and noddles. He places it down in front of Zhen with a fork. Nods his head and returns to the kitchen after Ameiko asks him for two more Curries.
Orcana: -4gp from your gold total.

Diabel looked curiously at the female at the bar she seemed nervous and somewhat fidgety, he wondered if this was because of the amount of people in the bar or if it was something all the more sinister was going through her mind. Looking across at the man who had entered after him he wondered if it would be worth striking up conversation with the big man after all if anything were to happen an ally is better than being alone.

Orcana fumbles with the coins in her pouch and slides them across the bar. "The name's Orcana-Rae. Book me and my companion in for three nights. Separate rooms please."
When Orcana is satisfied the barkeep needs no further information she turned her attention back to her companion sat sulking in the shadows. She really had mixed feelings about him. In one respect she wanted to punch him in the face yet in the other. Well, she couldn't put her finger on it. He was different, that's for sure. She saw his eyes meet hers and for a second she was locked, paralyzed, then as quickly as it came the sensation left her realizing she was sat at a bar surrounded by men of various types. She turned back to the bar and wondered how long the wait was on the food.

Godein continued to peruse the menu. The curry smelled damn good, the large man in the furs having devoured his plate quickly. Other patrons were entering the bar, the door going another 4 times during the time he had spent eyeing the menu. A gruff voice, deep and booming had announced a dwarf had entered, followed by the scent of dwarven smoking pipe. Godein's encounters with the dwarves had been few and far between, but an encounter with a dwarven smithy who had come to craft armours for a batch of freshly raised Paladin's stood out firmly in his mind as the scent crawled around the bar. He realised he was taking a bit too long, closing the menu and waving for the barkeep.
"I'll take a curry and mug of the Varisian ale, please."
He left his three gold on the table close the barkeep and hefted his pack over his shoulder again with the clang of shifting items within. Walking a few paces away from the bar towards the fire, Godein pulled a chair from the table, one facing into the room and back to the wall. He placed his pack gently onto the floor and eyed the newest patrons.
A walking cloak, billowing and hiding whomever was beneath it, was closing on a table on the darker side of the bar, followed by a smaller being in a rain sodden cloak. The fur-covered being was at the bar again, the dwarf smoking his pipe. The patron who had taken a spot closest to the fire was being exceptionally quiet. Godein had missed a new patron enter, similarly covered by a rain sodden cloak. As this patron ventured towards the darker side of the tavern, yet another patron entered. His loose robe was drenched. Godein eyed each patron once more before settling into his chair a fraction further. An eclectic group of patrons was an understatement to say the very least.

Shadow found his half-elf companion to be a bit of an oddity; at once out of place and in her element as she spoke with the innkeeper. Though he would never admit it, he was glad for the company, and doubly glad that she was willing to do most of the talking when they encountered the locals. It gave him a chance to watch and study those around him, as he did now.
The dwarf was typical of his race; bearded, stout, and stinking of ale. Shadow's nose twitched at the thought. He was wary of the humans, but as yet none had spoken up, so he figured them not to be traveling together. That was a good sign, for groups tended to act out with a mob mentality. He noticed the other half-elf stealing a look at his companion and he narrowed his eyes, studying the half-breed.
It was then that a striking thought entered his mind. All of these people had something in common, and it wasn't just that they were all searching for a spot of food or for shelter from the elements.
They all looked dangerous.

Despite the welcoming nature of the rusty Dragon you can feel a tense edge developing in the atmosphere.
Best to stay in the corner I think, eating the surprisingly delicious noodles. Keep an eye on the ones in the shadows and see how it pans out.

"Orcana-Rae." Ameiko smiled. "A nice name. I am Ameiko, Ameiko Kaijitsu. If you ever need anything, you can come to me or one of my staff. They should normally be wearing a rusty red tunics." Ameiko handed over two keys to Orcana. "Rooms three and four." she said with a smile. She then took the mans money from the bar and deposited it into her side pouch. She made sure that Romi knew of the new order, and then proceeded to pour the mans ale before taking it over to him. She mentioned that her chef would bring the meal over in a few moments once it had been plated up. ---- Link to the 2nd floor of the Rusty Dragon. Romi at this point comes back out from the kitchen with two meals for Orcana. He places them down before making his way back to the kitchen.
You all seem to notice that Romi is a very quiet man, who has yet to speak. But he seems to have a sixth sense for who has ordered what, despite most of the past 10 or 15 minutes being spent in the Kitchen. You all get the impression that Romi is very efficient at his job.

After taking a mouthful out of his second jug of ale, Kale noticed a space opening up at the fireplace. "These closes are not drying quickly he thought. Thanking the barkeep, the warrior move at a steady pace towards the fire. He noticed the strong jawed fellow also trying to make his way towards the fire but there was plenty room for both. Kale nodded in good gesture towards the clean shaved man. After passing him Kale grabbed a stool, and at the same time trying not to spill his ale walked towards the fire. There was a space rather close the first stranger that walked into the Inn before him. He seemed quiet enough. Keeping himself to himself, but sometimes there the ones to watch.
Risking it, Kale with stool in hand pointed to the empty spot near the half-elf. Asking in a Mannering voice Kale nodded to the empty space and asked the quiet one. "Do you mind.?"

Looking up he saw the big man heading towards him, and wondered if he had read his own thoughts, a smile trickled across Diabel's face. He spoke and Diabel replied quietly as usual "no not at all" and motioned to the chair next to him "i'm Diabel" he said extending his hand slowly.

Kale was in a way shocked. He thought the half-elf would not speak, but spoke he did. He also pointed to the seat next to him and since it was offered in a friendly manner, who was Kale to refuse. Dropping the stool Kale had in his hands and shoving it next to the table beside them Kale sat beside Diabel.
Reaching out with his hand to meet Diabel's Kale spoke. " Kale." while shaking his hand. Sitting down Kale thanked his company for letting him sit by the fire. Placing his ale on the table after a couple of good gulps Kale released his ponytail to let his damp tangled hair flow free to let the fire work its magic. After he was sorted he looked at the quiet one.
"Awful night.?"

Diabel looked at Kale "yes it sure is" he responded looking Kale over. Kale was a beast of a man only slightly shorter than himself but built like the biggest men from back in Egansvale, probably even bigger. His hair was dark because of the rain and was partially sticking to his neck and face, but Diabel could sense the strength there.
"have you traveled far, friend?" he asked quiet as usual, and then took another sip of his water.

"Friend." Kale thought. " Rather forward." Kale also thought. The half-elf looked rather frail, well...frail compared to the Barbarian. Kale did not really know much about the half breeds but one thing was for sure. He looked lethal. His thin face , with no real expression. Kale compared him to a cat or some what. quiet, slender. but turn your back for a second and your finished. Kale was not one for making friends, but at the same time tries not to make too many enemies. He had a long couple of days and all the warrior wanted was one or two nights rest. So go with the flow as they say. Kale took another drink of his fine ale.
"Here and there. a bit of everywhere really." "You from Sandpoint.?"

Once Orcana had returned to their shared table in the shadows, she dropped a key and a plate of curry in front of Shadow. "Room four," she said. As always, Shadow noticed a slight edge to her voice, though he attributed it in this case to her discomfort around the others. "The meal's taken care of as well."
It caught him off guard that she'd pay for his meal, but he wasn't going to complain about it. He wasn't one to reject free meals, especially cooked ones. He nodded a brief thanks, the conversation between the bulky human and the other half-elf catching enough of his attention that he focused on them for a moment. The conversation seemed strained but friendly enough, giving Shadow a perfect opportunity to profile the two as he started to pick at his food.

Having taken a moment to rest up, Kemuel sat up in his seat in the darkened area in the left of the tavern. As was his habit from years of training, he needed to check his equipment, but brandishing a gleaming Greatsword in a room full of might and ego probably wasn't a wise move. The room seemed fairly tense, with a heavy atmosphere, which when he thought about it seemed about right to Kemuel. It would be foolish to drop guard in a tavern full of Elves, Barbarians and Dwarves. Not to mention the others who each had the brooding, solitary aura of assuredness about them.
The smell of spices wafted over occasionally from the meal that some were eating and Kemuel thought about ordering some but more than food he wanted information. His curiosity was piqued by this assembly - maybe there was something deeper here.
Calmly and with a neutral, amicable expression, Kemuel arose and made his way over to the bar where he patiently waited for the busy but friendly seeming host to see him.

"No not from here" Diabel replied, "I'm from not too far away, a place called EgansVale, but this is my first time in Sandpoint". Diabel looked around the room at the other patrons in the establishment, turning his attention back to Kale he took another sip of his water "there seem to be a lot of interesting people here atleast" he said quietly, once more a faint smile on his face.

Ameiko glanced over to the man who had just made his way to the bar. "Yes sir, what can I get for you?"
---- At this point a small group of three humans men enter the Rusty Dragon. They look to be in plain, common attire. They are in good spirits despite the rain.
A pass of a DC15 Perception roll shows that their builds and the worked hands, show them to be farmers.
(Note It doesn't matter if you roll with an online dice roller or an actual dice. Post your result in Blue text. EG.
John looked at the group of men that entered.
(Perception roll: (roll) + (skill total) = x)
John could clearly see that the men were likely to be farmers.
- Further note, you need get equal or more against the DC to pass the roll.

Godein returned the nod to the fur laden man with one of his own and proceeded to tuck into his meal, which as he suspected, tasted as good as it smelled. Surviving on rations and water whilst on his trek from the Temple had left a desire for flavoursome foodstuffs.
He reclined further back into his chair and continued to eat. The half-elf, whom had sat by the fire, had turned out to be taller than the fur-laden giant. Not by much but it was unexpected after seeing the man folded into his seat. The pair were now conversing amicably about the weather and where they were from. He drank another swig of his ale as the man who had seated himself to the darker end of the tavern moved towards the bar. He was content to watch and listen for now. No one was overtly hostile and everyone seemed capable of not starting a bar room brawl. Praise the Sun, he thought.
Perception check - 2+ 8 = 10, fail
A group entered as he was mulling this over. Too consumed in thought, Godein gave them a cursory glance. Locals was his best guess and didn't give them another thought. He slugged another mouthful of ale.

Shadow noticed the door to the inn open, some of the chill from the rainy evening entering with the group of humans. Studying them, Shadow could tell that they were likely from nearby, but couldn't pick up any other details from his shadowy corner. (Perception roll: 5 + 9 = 14, fail.) He nudged Orcana's elbow to make sure she saw them, speaking softly to her in his basic Common, "Company." He was wary of groups, especially as the rest of the patrons came in alone.

Before Kale could answer the half-elf his attention was turned to the new arrivals who walked into the Tavern. After a few seconds Kale seen them as no threat so back to his conversation. Egansvale...."Na, not familiar. I have just travelled from Galdura, about two or three days travel. Just finished of a job......so here I am."
Kale finished off his Ale and considered another. The Ale was good, and going down a little too well. Looking back at Diabel.
"Starting to get busy. What brings you then, to Sandpoint."

Orcana moved the last fork full of curry and rice across her plate and re-considered stuffing it down. She noticed Shadow's ears pick up, his breathing became quick and shallow, his attention quickly turned towards the door behind her. He nudged her elbow, motioning towards the door so she turned over her shoulder to see. (Perception roll: 9 + 7 = 16, success.) She understood why Shadow was instantly concerned, their presence put a shiver down her spine too. She watched a moment longer, keeping her eye on the way the three newcomers moved, talked, interacted. They were farmers all right, but that wasn't the whole story and she knew it. She shuffled her chair to Shadow's side. "What do you see?" he asked, as if he couldn't work it out for himself. "Farmers, but rough. Clearly been working the lands even in this rain but I'm not convinced that's all of it." "How can you tell they're farmers?" "How can you not tell?" He really must be blind! she thought as she watched on.

Diabel looked towards the new group who had just entered and instantly saw that they were farmers from around the area, as a child he had seen many of the farmers in the area and recognised these new patrons to be just that. Turning back to his conversation with the man opposite he realised that just like himself his attention had also been drawn to the newcomers

"Ameiko! Three ales please!" boomed the lead man. They all removed their long coats and placed them on one of the wooden stands near the fire.
Ameiko went to pour the three ales well the Knightly looking man decided what he needed. "Hello Telyn. You and the boys been out working in this weather?"
"Yes." replied the biggest of the three, as well as the oldest. "We really needed to fix in some fence posts today before we get a delivery of sheep this week."
Ameiko nodded knowingly. "Well, at least its Sunday tomorrow." she smiled. Telyn handed over some gold coins and took the ales and then they moved to a table near the empty stage.

" Just finished a job. I don't really look, but if something comes up or looks and sounds interesting, then I'll take it."
Kale did not want to tell the half-elf too much. "Still in a strange place and only five minutes talking to this guy, not enough to earn my trust."
Kale has killed many people through some of the jobs he has taking on. Some kills even Kale thought was pointless and for lesser men, they would not have the guts. But it paid well and that's all that matters. Hired to kill, hired to protect. No matter who they were or where there from, or race. Elf, dwarf, ork, human. Kale did not care.
"So Diabel, what is your profession, if looking for jobs around here." Kale fine well heard the man say that he was trying to find his place in the world. But Kale acted as if he never caught that part.
